Certainly. The water is shallow and clean. Please come prepared for a 20-minute walk to the beach from the parking lot. Bring lots of drinking water, sunscreen and a hat - there is very little shade on the beach.
The Health Department checks this beach as often as it checks other beaches in the area. BSB has been closed once in the past - likely due to geese congregating in the water. There are no nearby residences to contribute bacteria and any "over flow" water discharged from the City of Kingston appears to flow along the north east side of the island. I hope you enjoy your vacation.
Swimming is permitted (at your own risk). The "beach" area is wide or narrow depending on water levels and the wave action. The area has a beautiful sand bottom and is shallow for a long ways out so it is safe for small kids if there is not a strong onshore wind - strong waves can knock little ones down if they venture too far in on a windy day. Adults seem to enjoy "body surfing" on those days. Hope you are able to come and enjoy this summer.
